Detox
Detoxing your body is such a critical and vital part of losing weight fast and overall health.
But first it is important to understand how our bodies introduce and handle toxins.
Think of a toxin as an artificial element that, once consumed, our body has no idea how to process or extract energy or nutrition from.
Unfortunately in our western diets, toxins are introduced in very high volumes via processed foods, what we drink and our environment. Just take a quick look at the ingredients list on the packaging of your food and you’ll be stunned by the many unnatural and unpronounceable additives.
They are often in the chemicals added to increase a products shelf life or saleability. And while this might work at achieving the producers goals, our bodies have a really hard time dealing with them.
After the toxins enter our bodies, our stomach, liver and intestines kick into action and does what they do best – sort the good stuff from the crap. In the beginning, it handles it well by flushing toxins out through our waste. And that works for for a while.
But as we load up the next meal of toxins – then the next – then the next, our bodies cannot get rid of the toxins as quickly as we are introducing more.
It then comes up with a brilliant Plan B.
Plan B
Our body says to itself, ‘OK – I’ll take the remaining toxin, wrap it in fat to protect the body – then store it until I have a break and then dispose of it’.
You’ll recognize this ‘I’ll deal with it later’ strategy if you have ever been overworked!
So there the cycle begins… the toxins are stored as fats (often cellulite) to our butts, hips, stomach, thighs.
But the break that was factored into the brilliant Plan B strategy never comes!
So our body – doing the best it knows how – discards what it can but is forced to isolate the left over toxins. So it stores more fat – and more fat – and more fat.
When we finally decide that we have had enough and that we could lose some weight, we suddenly find the fat and cellulite doesn’t shift.
That’s because our stomach, liver and intestines are still over-burdened – still dealing with toxins that were deposited long ago.
This is where an effective natural detox becomes important.
Think of a detox as ‘restoring a work-life balance’ for our digestive system!
While you can start detoxing by reducing your intake of processed foods, sugar and salt, and increasing your water intake to flush out the waste, there are specific foods and detox diets that more effectively shift the toxins and therefore the stored fats.
